History 738 (Graduate Colloquium, Summer 2010)
Description: This course is a colloquium for graduate students aimed at building a field in World History or Islamic History for general exams. It also aims to instill in the student an awareness of the challenges posed by comparative and global history in relation to their own field of study; students are encouraged to situate their own work in a broader context. The upcoming incarnation of this course will focus on the role of frontiers and frontier societies in comparative context across the various regions of the world.
Note: since the upcoming term is only 5 weeks long and will run from the first week of July to the first week of August, I will try to have a syllabus posted by mid-May so that you may begin looking at the readings ahead of time. You will have to move quickly once the colloquium begins!
